The Manor House in Newland is the home to the Town Council. It also houses the Northern Area office of West Dorset District Council, Sherborne Citizens Advice Bureau, Artslink, and Magna Housing Agency.
The building was purchased by the Town Council from West Dorset District Council who had taken control of it in 1974 following the re-organisation directed by the Local Government Act 1972.
It's origins date back to the 15th or 16th century but it was never a Manor House. It was previously occupied by the Durnfords family, Mr Okes a coach master, Mr Beale the Master of the Bristol and Weymouth Wagons, and the Madame Vantini School for Young ladies. It is believed that the name Manor House was falsely attributed by the misuse of headed note-paper by a previous occupant.
The Council Chamber in the Manor House is available for Civil Ceremonies. If you are interested in using it as a venue for a wedding or civil partnership, please contact the Registrars Office on 01305 225153 for further details on pricing and availability.
